    $100 spinning reel recommendation

Excluding Shimano since they don't have any with the reverse switch except the Spirex. Looking for a 2000 size no heavier than 8 oz. What's your best?
    Not the Daiwa Fuego either.

I was looking at the BPS JM Platinum if anyone has one and a review on it. Thanks

If you want a shallow spool, I bought a 2000 size for an ultra light crappie rod, very good reel.

Seems like you are committed to back reeling but I recently converted to Shimano from Daiwa because because I started have problems with the ARB failing when it got colder. Same thing happened to my buddy and he says that's why Shimano eliminated it.

I have a JM platinum 3000 spinning reel on the 7'1" medium platinum rod. Have had it for several years and no complaints. Mainly wacky rig, but have also use it for small tx rigs/jigheads. Had a 2000 series carbonlite reel for a little while that was great also.

I’d try to get over the “wanting a switch” criteria. The high end spinning reels I get these days seem to be watertight now and a switch would compromise that. Designs from high end reels eventually end up in low end reels, so expect the anti reverse switch to become obsolete soon (if it hasn’t already). I won’t even get into why I don’t like the anti reverse switch, but Randy Blauket seems to like them….

I used to back reel but got over it. When you get your drag setting correct and the correct rated rod for line size I don't use the switch anymore. I bought my son the Pflueger President as a gift and it hasn't held up at all and become (grindy) if that's a word quickly and have seen post stating the same thing. I don't know if the quality slipped but will not be buying another.

I don’t back reel, I let the drag do what it’s supposed to. Drags are significantly better than they were years ago when back reeling was the thing to do. , even in the $50-$100 range, a quality drag will be smoother and more responsive than someone trying to back reel

... not to mention the mess if your hand ever slipped off the handle with the anti reverse switch off. There's a reason those are disappearing.
