93' V4 90hp Evinrude - compression and leak down test numbers

Last year I deleted the VRO and replaced the water pump (with lots of help from BBC Forums people !!!)

I decided to take the boat to a local (old school, old dudes who know what they are doing with 2 strokes) shop as the motor was still "cold blooded" and not idling that well.

    Compression check came back - 120/120/118/120 and Leak down test was (approximate) 10% - 10% - 12% - 10%

These seems like positive numbers and the old school guys felt they were. Any thoughts ?

They also adjusted the idle and tightened up a few things - and for a very reasonable cost (1 hour labor) I will dunk the boat in this weekend with more confidence than I did last year.

Yeah, those are good Looking numbers. there is a hell of a difference in how manufactures build motors then and now. I still have my 1983 model Johnson 115 99 in.³ motor same as yours. Different carbs port timing and cylinder heads. if your motor is set up for pre-mix, simply put oil in the gas and it will run for many more decades. Only problem area is that gaskets rot away. ethanol fuel eats up all rubber components, including seals also. it burns a little bit more fuel then a comparable 90 hp, four stroke outboard, however, dramatically outperforms, four stroke motors in torque and performance. you may want to be proactive and replace the water diverter tubes inside of the crank case, you must remove cylinder heads to access. Along with inspection of Verna, therms, thermostats and gaskets. hang in there you have an old sweetie.
