    Opinions on a shipping charge

Say a company’s web site had available inventory on an item you needed fast, like 2 days. You call and they confirm they have stock and can ship 2nd day. Shipping cost for 2nd day will be $265. You say, great, I’ll pay it because I really need it fast. You then find out that they didn’t have the item in stock and had a source ship it ground from a state that’s only 5 hours from your location. You will actually receive the item the next day. They don’t tell you this up front but you find out through the shipping app. Would you be ok with the shipping cost or would you be upset that you weren’t told upfront that it’s shipping ground from a closer location. I’m on the fence. I’m getting it fast but I feel like I should’ve been told upfront that it’s not in stock but you will be charged an expedited fee to have it shipped from a different company/location/distributor in order to receive it in a day or two. What say you?

I deal with this all the time as a distributor. Personally I am upfront where we get most items and would have given you the correct shipping location however they may have bought it from a company that has multiple warehouses and they didn’t know which one it was coming from. The $265 was a cover their butt price incase it came from the farthest one. Just be happy you got it quicker for the price you agreed upon. Shipping is the absolute worst part of any distribution business. No matter what we do it is rarely perfect and the shipping companies don’t give a crap about anything.

If you agreed to the shipping cost and are getting in when promised or before. I would just accept it and move on.

Should have shipped it 2nd day service instead of ground if that is what you selected and paid for even if it shipped from a facility local to you.

Some customers complain when they get their package late, others complain when they get it early. You really can't please everyone.

I don’t understand… you want it in 2 days and it’s coming as you want.. why does it matter if it’s coming from place A or place B?

Look at it as you got a deal. Next Day is significantly more expensive than Second Day. If it cost 265 for 2nd, hate to see what Next Day would cost.

This ^^^ I know everyone likes to complain but not sure it's worth it.. You're getting the item you wanted, when you want it.

This. You got what you wanted, when you wanted it so there shouldn't be any complaints about where it was shipped from.

I don’t care what place it ships from. I just thought that when I said I needed it fast and was willing to pay for 2 day shipping, I would have thought he could’ve said “I don’t have this at my location but I have one in stock that can ship ground and you’ll get it in a day or two”…saving me 2nd day shipping charges. All good.

exactly.. a company doesn’t need to tell you where it’s coming from. If you agreed on that price then that’s on you. They have no need to try and save you money. Just a learning experience, now if you need a part you can do some research to see what facilities have it in stock that’s closer.

I doubt they’ll ship normally and have it be delivered the next day even at 5hrs away. We have a fly shop about 45min away. If we order something online it’ll take 4 days to be delivered.

I've never been a fan of people pissing away MY money, it's always better when MY money stays in MY POCKET. If he were a smart business man, he would have refunded the difference between Location A and Location B instead of taking his side piece to lunch.

You should have showed them by driving the 10 hrs round trip to pick it up yourself.

There is nothing like the great feeling you’ll have after driving 10 hrs, grabbing convenience store snacks and some fast food then being worn out the next day knowing you saved $265.00.

I agree. OP will probably never purchase from this company again (I wouldn't). Why would you be asked to pay for 2nd day when it wasn't needed and it would actually slow down the delivery? Seller should have done HIS legwork to see where it was coming from and to see if buyer needed to pay for 2nd day shipping. Because he didn't he ran a (possible repeat) customer away.

Most people or companies don't go the extra mile for service. Here's another scenario that happens, maybe not if you're in a major destination hub.
I learned to never order next day. I never had a next day order make it the next day, never. I would order 2nd day receive the order, usually 2nd day and at a 3rd the cost.

You have to watch very carefully. There are some who will ship Next Day or 2nd day Air, but don't guarantee when it will be packed and shipped. Takes 2 days to ship, and 2 days in transit, yet they still kept there promise and the Shipping was correct.

A poor rant, you wanted something in 2 days and got it in one, yeah, not feeling your "outrage".

I have worked as a Shipping Manager for over 40 years, The eye opener is what the list price for freight costs vs. negotiated rates. For example, I ship a 150 lb pallet from Kansas City to Des Moines. My negotiated rate is $128.24. The list rate is $1098.00!!!
