    Question about priming oil system

Serial # 1B914069 2012 115 3cyl optimax pro XS 2 stroke 200 hrs …..last week Had the boat out, why running got 1 beep shut off and checked vessel view on my phone, it showed code 451-25 and 711-24 . One was a false code for pitot valve the other low oil level. Checked oil level it was ok. Was told to replace oil level sensor, ordered sensor and small filter behind reservoir. Removed reservoir today, drained completely and replaced parts. I know I have to prime oil system but here is what I’m not sure about.I have a factory Mercury manual for my motor and it says to squeeze primer bulb for fuel, turn ign switch to on within first 10 seconds move from neutral to forward 3 to 5 times this will start the priming process, may take a few minutes to complete. Is this the proper procedure for my eng? I read over on the other forum for optimax that this will put it in the eng break in mode, Then I read a sticky from Don that talked about starting eng with muffs on and loosening cap and burping it. I would appreciate any help, just want to do it the correct way. Thanks

The jockey shifter method will indeed put engine back into break in mode, to run the break-in clock down you have to run your engine the same way as during break in.

The other method you read is how to purge the air from the engine reservoir, but, since you disconnected the downstream oil line when you replaced the reservoir it won't bleed any air from downstream oil lines.

The correct procedure is an oil pump prime sequence, can only be initiated by a Mercury or aftermarket scan tool like Diacom or your Mercury dealer.

might want to do some testing before you run it again , you most likely have a bad float in oil tank requires replacing complete tank assembly

I got the oil warning beep and disconnected the wire from the tank. Testing! The beep stopped and being that it was the float I left the wire disconnected and its still running to this day. Just check the tank and make sure you have oil, and this on a 2002 50hp. I did sell the boat and its running without a float.

Yes sir- the big down side is that if you were to develop a leak in a line, the pump, or the tank: You very well could run out of oil before the engine started communicating with smoke signals (remember, it can't "scream" at you anymore if you bypass the low oil warning).

In the case of a pump or supply line- the window between that failure and an "unscheduled disassembly" could be as little as a couple minutes.
