Is this a new marketing method for bass boats?

First one I’ve seen that did not include the trailer as standard. Seen it a lot on pontoons and big boats, but not bass boats. Is this the marine version of shrinkflation?

Towing that puppy home without a trailer is hard on the Hamby's keel protector. And other parts.

The only thing I can think of is it's an Arkansas dealer based on the 479 area code and this legislative session just made it to where sales tax is now paid on boats at the Revenue Office at time of registration instead of the dealer collecting the tax. The dealer never collected tax on the trailer so it was always done at the Revenue Office but dealers would invoice it to below the taxable threshold on trailers (some would). A lot of people will finance their sales tax when it's collected by the dealer especially if you're financing through the dealer. Not saying that's why but nobody is buying a new bass boat without a trailer so there's a reasoning somewhere to make it optional but if you think about it they technically always were.

Just a marketing stunt. I've often seen Tracker aluminums prices really low...only to discover that the boat came with an outboard with 1/2 the HP that the boat was rated for.

    “Optional” trailer!! That’s crap!!
I remember many years ago when they were just starting the party barges, my stepdad wanted a “bass buggy” party barge to leave at the camp.. they were “cheap”. Trailer was extra..

Wait…. So, if you have a lake house with a lift, can they just deliver the boat without trailer? Someone should challenge that!!

In AR everything attached to the boat is taxed by the dealer except the trailer. So if you drove down from Wisconsin you'd pay sales tax to the dealer on the boat, motor, trolling motor, prop, electronics, etc. no matter that you were just going to hook it up to your truck and immediately drive back to Wisconsin. Trailers weren't taxed by the dealer, that was done at the DMV when you licensed it. Now the dealers aren't going to collect tax on anything. Our state rate is 6.5% but every county and city has it's own rates in addition to the 6.5%, you can safely plan on 10%.

When I was in the process of buying my 175txw with a 75hp the salesman was happy about the same boat I was buying with the 40hp coming in to put on the floor. The price is a lot better with the 40hp that's for sure. Guess there's a butt for every seat.

I seen it a lot when I was looking for a new one a few years ago. Asked similar questions and was told some folks just live on a lake and the boat is delivered and never leaves the lake. Ok…..

We just bought a pontoon without a trailer. And yes, the dealer delivered it to the launch at the marina we will keep it. If and when service is needed, they charge $150 to come pick it up and bring it back after the service.
