My engine is an 86 Johnson 90 horse-- Model Number: J90MLCDC 1986.
My engine starts fine and runs fine until about 3/4 throttle. When I continue to WOT it loses power. I go back to 3/4 throttle and it runs fine again. I had my fuel pump replaced in Aug. '08. What is my engine's problem.

First thing I would check is to make sure the plates aren't over opening. Remove the air box cover and watch the plates as you near WOT. At WOT the plates should be perpendicular to the carb body. If they are then when it happens hit the choke briefly. If then motor "picks up" you have a fuel delivery issue. If not then it is electrical.
using the choke does not make it pick up.. what kind of electrical problem am i looking at?

See if the spark advance linkage on the side of the motor is advancing with the engine off.
The timer base sticks some times and the timing will not advance.
