    Shorter glide bait rod

I had been using a Shimano Curado 78XH to throw small/mid size glides (6th Sense Trace, Bull Shad, etc). Thursday I broke the rod on a dang catfish of all things...she bit a 6" glide in less than 3 feet of water, fully ate it! Anyway, I might be in the market for a replacement. I used a Powell 795 before I got the Curado but wasn't thrilled with it due to lost fish. I'm going to try a Kistler 7'11 XH mod/fast I've been using for punching to see how it does. Ideally I'd like a little shorter rod than 7'11, I don't throw glides all the time and I'm usually not launching them for long casts. Any one use a 7'6 or less rod for this stuff? I don't think a regular 7'6 H would be enough (I tried out a Tatula 7'6 flipping rod and didn't like the way it felt casting). Kistler has a 7'6 XH in the KLX and Helium lines and ALX has similar. Found a few 7'3-7'5 options as well. I'd like for this rod to be able to do heavy cover frogging or punching if needed as I used the Curado for that as well. I guess I could just get another Curado but want to expand a little. The handle was pretty long on that rod so the frogging use was awkward. Not 100% sure I'll even replace it, might just try to tweak something on the 795 or make due with the Kistler I already have.

I use a Destroyer P5 Mark 56 for swimbaits in the 1-3 oz range but I really like the Poison Adrena 7'4" heavy regular fast for swimbaits up to 2.25 oz. It's a very fun rod to use due to it's shorter length, comfortable grip and surprisingly light weight. It's almost parabolic action keeps fish pinned when using those big treble hook swimbaits but it has enough backbone to fish extremely well with single beast hook swimbaits like a 6" Magdraft. I have the 2019 version but I suspect the new 2024 model is much the same.

The Megabass Destroyer P5 Tequila Baccarac is absolutely Miller withsmaller glides. I throw Chad Shads, Clutch Ecos and Trick Shads on mine. It can pull duty on other techniques too pretty well. Such a versatile rod.

It's almost stupid how versatile this rod is. I use my Tequila Baccarac for smaller glides, 6" Magdrafts and knockoffs, A-rigs, 6XDs - 10XDs, frogs, whopper ploppers, jackhammers, football jigs and pitching cypress trees and bushes.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Not sure what I'm gonna do just yet, maybe nothing, lol.

86 inches - The PA looks really interesting. I've always wanted to own an Adrena.

The Megabass X10 Swamp Survivor is a similarly versatile rod that can throw all kinds of baits. I owned the Tequila Baccarac as well. The TB is a little crisper than the Swamp Survivor and is rated up to 4 oz whereas the SS is rated to 3 oz. But for anything that involves rod twitching, like walking a frog or a topwater walking bait, I like the SS better because it has a shorter handle. It also has a little softer tip. And although the TB is 7'0" and the SS is 7'1", because the SS has a shorter handle, it has a fair amount more "usable" rod length as well. I think the TB is slightly more sensitive, but the SS is no slouch in the sensitivity department. I'm using the SS to throw glides in the 1 3/4 oz to 2 3/4 oz range and it has handled all of them great so far.

I have the 7’4” adrena, the Baccarac, the mark 56, BMG, and a Brailist. ( brailist is sneaky good draft and 168 rod)
all of them throw 6” glides and drafts well ( The BMG and the Adrena are the most fun for drafts)
after baits get to 2 oz or so I fish them in the 56. The Baccarac does all of ok but is less refined than the others.
