Will the -AP1 work in place of the -1.
I know the AP is for autopilot, not sure if there are any other differences.
Don't need the Auto pilot but may be able to get the AP1 cheap...

Yes, Point-1 AP will work like a Point-1

It doesn't connect directly to any unit. You have to install a NMEA network and then the antenna and the unit both connect into the network.Once both are on the network, AP will supply heading data just like a regular Point 1.

There is a difference between those 2 transducers My experience is the Auto Pilot does not work very well as the Point 1 for mapping. I don't know the reason but I have had 2 switched out 2 different ones because it did not work correctly. Cry once or Cry everytime.
It all depends on the application. Point-1 AP has different filtering and averaging of data compared to the standard version. For radar overlay Point-1 AP software is not that well suited. The recommendation from the engineers in Norway which designed the Pilot-1 autopilot and which modified the Point-1 AP was to have both a Point-1 AP for the autopilot and a standard Point-1 for radar overlay installed. For stabilizing the chart both versions will do the job.
