    1996 Evinrude Intruder

    E1506GLECD

A couple weeks ago while buzzing along on Lake champlain in 2-3 footers I lost rpms. It dropped from 5400 and 52 mph to 4000 and 40ish mph at WOT. At the ramp while waiting to load it was stumbling, sneezing and stalling while idling.

I brought it home and got a compression guage. All cylinders measured between 95 and 105. I checked the wires and reinstalled the plugs. Plugs all looked good to me with the electrodes the same light chocolate brown color. These were also new plugs this year.

Took it out today and it seemed to intermittantly run strong and then run weak. I am thinking I am intermittantly loosing some spark to a cylinder. Does this sound like a power pack issue? Or could one spark plug have possibly gone bad?

If it is a pack, just replaced mine on a 93 150 intruder on advice from forum. Made boat run perfect and seemed to give it 50 extra hp. found best deal in a cdi pack form outboardparts.com. pack with plug wires and sensor was $227 shipping included. Nightmare finding right part numbers.

Mine had a similar problem, however a siren went off and shut mine down to low rpms and roughly 4000rpms without overheating??

I replaced my thermo's and it works fine now.

Good luck, interested in finding out ultimately what the problem is.

My 96 Intruder started aacting odd a few falls ago, no spark tried all the kill switch circuit as well as key switch was still very sparatic. next spring same thing then summer came and all was fine semed to be a cold damp issue. Then on Memorial Day weekend it stalled going under the last bridge 1/4 mile from ramp after running 10 miles up a lake @ 60 it it quit Even when it was dying it didnt let me down.

I knew it was a pack issue and Dealer confirmed. it wouldnt rev above 1500 in gear in the water. Would rev fine on the muffs

New pack and optical pickup and timer base solved the problem..

Don't rule out the shift assist switch.

I have heard I can disconnect that to rule it out as a problem. How do I do that?

Disconnect the port packard connector from the power pack & retest.
You won't be able to shut the engine off with the connector disconnected.
You'll need to pull the plugwires to shut it off after the test.
Use a pair of insulated pliers to prevent electrical shock.

    Re: 1996 Evinrude Intruder (Ilovefroggin)

All happy now!!! Installed a new CDI powerpack and 3 new Dual Coils this morning. Easy as pie. Took her out for a spin quick and boy did she jump out of the hole!! I think my powerpack had been dying slowly for a while. Motor even sounded different. It had always been loud almost "rappy" at WOT. Now it sounds like all the other motors sound. Way smoother at all throttle ranges too.

Georgia Watersports got me my parts in two days at prices far below anyone else!!! The Powerpack was 161.00 when everywhere local I called wanted 259.00. Coils were cheap too 24 bucks as opposed to local 45 bucks. They didnt have the CDI coils in stock to but did have Sierra ones that were a little cheaper.
