Talked with a CBP agent that told us they were going to pull Amistad down another 20'. He could not tell us why. Any one know whats up? That would put it at about 1092' for the rally. Does it affect the spawn or do Amistad fish spawn deep enough not to affect them?

That won't affect the spawn. If they are not done spawning by now, they will be by April. The spawn is already over on some lakes.

It's 18.5' low now. Are you saying their going to drop it another 20' on top of that and make it 38' low?
Yes it will effect the spawn.
Some of the fish spawn deep but alot of them do not.
They want to make it easier for the illegals to wade across.

I asked a friend that lives there and has been there for over 30 years. This is what he told me last week when I talked to him about coming down there to fish with him.
Mexico usually takes their allocated allotment of water from the lake in a gradual let out. But, this year, the officials said they want it all at one time for their crop irrigation. They anticipate it to drop between 38 to 40 foot from the level it was at when they started pulling the water out. It's dropping about 3" a day.
As to the spawn, these fish have seen this a lot and have adapted to it. He said the older and larger fish seem to move out to the 10' to 15' depths to spawn. The small fish will still try and spawn up shallow.
My buddy said it fishes a whole lot better when it's that low. I'm headed down there Friday to fish with him.
Just think of all the great spawns the last several years and now those fish are going to be that much more concentrated. Ought to be a whack fest!
cottnman, That is what I understood is that they were going to take it to 40' below pool level. I did not know why.
We found 58-68 degree water this weekend. Lots of males no mamas in the backs of coves. It was a little breezy on Sat. Lots of mamas out on points and about to explode but no big ones this time.

It's funny, I learned that lake when it was 28' low. To this day I've never been able to run over stuff that's been well underwater for years. Looks like those old habits are about to come in handy again.

The lake is better when it's 35ft low. Not near as dangerous, easier to navigate. Still not easy to wade across as the one idiot said. If it hadn't flooded from the broken lake dam up in Mexico a few years ago it'd probably be 60ft low right now.

Oh yeah, Amistad. Last time I was down there it was so full I was lost on where to fish my deeper spots. Can't hang in there at 60' deep ledges.
