John,
For starters, I can tell you that this drought spans from coast to coast.
Take about 4 Toledo's and put them together, and that's Lake Marion right now.![]()
When you traveled either lake (Marion or Moultrie) in the boat channels you would not dare be on plane the SECOND you turned to go scout. Big stumps were showing less than two feet from channel markers in places. The fishing was tough for most of the field as the numbers reflect, mine included. I caught tons of shorties at about every stop. My biggest came in practice. I caught one about 7 lbs. Turns out, those were pretty common to those who unlocked the pattern.
All in all the trip was good. The news of my Mom passing took a bit of time to adjust. After deciding to stay, I kept my head down and a bait wet the best I could. I met some great folks who share my passion from all over the U.S. Looking forward to Sam Rayburn next year, if I can afford to keep competing without corporate sponsorship. That 1100 miles in truck and boat fuel alone could have been a carribean cruise![]()
