B/W Tow and stow hitch question

Does anyone use a locking pin to secure the ball in lieu of the cotter pin?

I see that the way they built it was for the ball to not pop out if the pin and cotter pin were disconnected.

I Spoke to the company and the response was that folks do use a locking pin at their discretion They stated they have not tested the tow and stow hitch with a locking pin.

Appreciate any thoughts and responses. RR

If you're asking if I use something like the link below to secure my B/W hitch to the receiver on the truck, then yes. If you're asking if I use anything other than the B/W supplier cotter pin to secure the ball height adjustments pins, then no.

x2 BW has it figured out, no need to change it.

Okay a unanimous NO! So for an analogy I put locking Diesel caps on my truck as well as locking DEF cap to make it more difficult for someone to ruin my day.

When i look at my new hitch my brain said how hard would it be for some idiot to frig with it and pull all the cotter pins out at the ramp?

Old age and brain fog I might miss that on my visual inspection before towing home. The design and the safety chains provide a great back up plan to limit failure.

Always better to ask questions then to have something happen and then answer the question why did you not ask someone if you were not sure HA! HA!

I do. I keep the originals in the truck tool box. Red locktite on the SS acorn nuts; locking pin at the ball swivel.

No because I don’t think you can remove the ball assembly while the hitch is in the receiver

Fortunately, I don’t even have to really think about that with my WeighSafe hitch—the pin for the ball height adjustment, pin for the hitch, and the spare padlock are keyed the same from WeighSafe. Additionally, I get a scale on the ball mount to get an idea if I’m over/underloading.

That's secure. Never would have thought to put Loktite on the acorn nuts. We have too many meth monkeys running around who steal anything that is not locked down. All my hitches/balls have locks.

We do too. The B&W factory pins are so nice, really the first thing I thought was that they're gonna get stolen. So, since they're so nice I can't use them.

This conversation is exactly why I went with Weighsafe.

djb750's solution with the acorn nuts and locktite is a good one for the B&W set up.

I added one of these to the B&W MultiPro on my Denali + I keep a pack of spare pins under the seat if needed.
I have to stow it with the hitch balls under the truck if I want to use my tailgate, which I do frequently.

BTW, you can order the double hitch ball setup with a 1-7/8” and a 2” ball if you contact B&W via phone.
It's not an option on the website. Just an FYI.
