1996 Evinrude Intruder 150hp Why change the In-Line Fuel Filter ?

I posted this in the Ranger section too, however, just wondering.

    Why change it ?

I understand the purpose of a filter, but does it really need to be changed every year like some people recommend ? And what specific improvements in performance has anyone noticed from changing it ?

Thanks. I am going to change mine cause its probably 4 years old. Used boat, could be the original one for all I know.

I have a 96 Johnson 150 and the manual I have just recommends cleaning it with solvent and putting it back in. I took that as there is no need to change it unless the filter started to tear.

Oh and by the way, love the avitar and name.

Why thank you ! YOU apparently have great taste in music

I think that's a good rule of thumb it seems, if it were to tear then replace.

I just read a lot on here that some people change them annually, even the spark plugs too.

I know they need to get replaced eventually, but annually seems a little overboard. Just curious. Any other takers out there ??

    All opinions appreciated....

    Yes great taste in music.

Actually just looked at my filter the other day, with the exception of a lil bit of stuff to clean out, it still looks brand new.

I could understand changing it if it were a paper filter or ripping, but otherwise, if it aint broke, dont fix it.

As for the plugs, every year or so I will change them. Mine still runs just like it did outta the showroom.
