I was invited to fish the Skeeter Owner's tournament over the weekend at Lake Fork with another BBC member (TexasLarry). We have never fished together previously and took the fun approach to the event, considering there were about 750 boats there. Larry had pre-fished a few days prior to my arrival on Friday. To say the least, it was HOT! Saturday rolls around and we began in the Birch Creek area and caught several topwater fish. We take one of mine to weigh in the third hour and tried to sneak a check, but the fish I weighed was 2.19, and the last place for the third hour was just a tad more(2.24). We left the marina and headed back out to continue our day. Around 12:30, we knew the fish weren't on the bank any longer or they would have been getting cooked from the sun. We started in about 15 Ft of water, and I had a beauty totally inhale one of Eric's baits he painted for me. She was so big she couldn't jump all the way out of the water. She just came up and showed her head and part of her gills. I seen the head and asked Larry to get the net. The result was a fish we guessed to be about 9 pounds, and measured a hair under 24 inches. I mean it was so close to the mark that we couldn't believe it. There were 10 or 11 fish over the slot weighed, and this one would have been in the top 5, if she was another 1/16 of an inch.......Thanks again, Larry! Had a blast![]()
