    Broken Brace 82' BM 150

I noticed this broken brace on my 1982 Mercury BM 150hp sn# 6101202

What is the name of the broken brace in the pic attached

What are some reasons this brace would break the way it did?

    Thanks

That's not a brace, it's a zinc anode. Salt water motors replace it every season.

    +1!

It is an anode, whether zinc or other composition is unknown. It's stamped "Do not paint" because coating an anode can negate its sacrificial purpose.

    Thanks guys!

Any suggestions on where to buy one under it's name?

I just searched zinc anode mercury bm & only came back with the circular piece with a fin on it, that lives under the lower unit.
