Going to get hex nuts for cranking battery today, what size do I need for standard battery? Also do I need washers or anything or is it just the nuts?

3/8 in standard threads.
I didn't use washers on mine. But the nuts I got are pretty wide and flat because everyone is kicking them, if that makes any sense, but I'm nuts anyway and know more about outboards than the factory does.

The negative post uses a 5/16-NC nut and the positive post will be the same or a 3/8-NC, depending on the manufacturer. Use a star lockwasher between the cable and the post. Now before y'all ask why, the top of the battery post is not completely flat and the star washer conforms, yet digs into the cable end.

I thought of that, and didn't have time to put it in there. However the big ole' 1190 ca battery that I have uses 3/8 nuts on both + and -. The best thing to do is get two of both 5/16 and 3/8 just to cover your bases.

Yep, and some of them big bad a$$ batteries have hole thru the lugs that require a bolt and nut to fasten the cables.

I used an extra wide locking nut and star washers on mine. I also used the spray on them to keep the corrosion down. Have never had any problems![]()
