I have a 1985 Johnson 150 Gt with electric problems. The three cylinders on the port side is not firing. I put new power packs on last fall. Is it possible for one side of the stator not working or does it completely go bad. The engine starts great and idles great, but will not run over 2500 rpm. It acts as if the power packs are bad again. Any ideals. Does anyone have any clues for me to check out or anyone had the same problems
Put a timing light on the plugs to verify but yep stators go bad. Look around the top of the motor under the stator for any sign of plastic drippings.
Thanks, Just tried port side at plugs,no spark. Put another power pack on port side and had spark. Need to go to the lake and see if boat will run above 3000 rpm. Don't understand why port side power pack always failing. The power pack that I took off the port side had 5 trips to the lake on it. Thanks for the reply. I will check for dripping around stator
