    Recessed tray question

Looking at a new boat. It has a recessed tray. Currently have a Terrova and no tray. I like the ability to move the foot control to whichever side I'm fishing if close the the bank, which is often. If the boat is parallel to the bank and I'm casting to the bank the recessed tray would make me contort myself to some degree to keep my foot on the control. Don't care much for using the remote hand held.

Like to get some comments on this from the wise men of BBC. I'll check with the dealer, but maybe they can just put a lid on the tray. Thinking of getting the Ulterra so I can move the foot control around instead of the Ultrex.

My dad had the same apprehension with having a recessed tray making it so that he couldn't reposition his foot pedal. I had him fish with my recessed tray for a day and he found that the more ergonomic setup with the recessed tray trumped being able to move the petal. Something to think about, not Captain Morganing all day is a big deal when it comes to back and leg stress.

That being said, if this is the direction you are going for sure, I'm sure there is a cap out there or one can be made fairly easily.

I bought the Ultrex last May and I have used the pedal twice. Fist time just to make it works. I use the remote. I am no longer tethered to the front of my boat. Give it a try. Good luck.

I have a remote with my Terrova. Don't care to take my hand off the rod/reel to deal with it. Of course if I use I-Track and record a track and then just stand in the middle of the boat, problem solved.

You can still take a pedal out of the tray

With the boat I'm buying, that don't look like it would be very easy.

This is what I was thinking. Think the pros and comfort of the tray would make you forget about shuffling the pedal around.

I don't ever stand while fishing. If I did then I wouldn't be concerned about torqueing my body/leg to keep a foot on the foot pedal while sitting and facing toward the bank. Just seems that is bit of contortion. What am I missing?

I can see where sitting would exacerbate the contorting. One of the things my dad did when he was sitting was get an offset pedestal that allowed a lot more flexibility in position of the chair. Then again, if you never fish while standing, then I don't see the recessed tray as being as big of a deal. Probably just make a cover with plastic.
