"ain't too smart.....but I'm always thinkin"
It was a beautiful fishI`ll leave the storytelling to Hag.
Finally the monkey is off my back after having a 9.98, 9.97, 9.95 and some other 9's.
We were up in some shallow spawing grounds (3 to 4 foot deep) and some whites came in chasing some shad. I told my wife to swim the worm over the top of them and see if they would hit it. I had already thrown out and turned to watch her worm go over the whites when I felt a little tug. I looked up to see my line moving to the side. I set a hard hook set (knowing what kind of fish hang out there) and she imediately skyrocketed completely out of the water. I will keep that picture in my head the rest of my life. Almost had a heart attack when I first saw her. She ran under the boat 4 or 5 times and I had to keep raising the trolling motor to get my rod around to follow her. After what seemed like an eternity of her jumping, trying to follow her with the trolling motor and trying to keep her out of a fence, Barbie was able to net her as she rolled over beside the boat. I'm just tickled my loving wife said we could go fishing on Mother's Day and was the one to be there to net her for me. She was just as excited as I was when we got her in the livewell.
I think I broke the double digit bar Saturday actually. I weighed one on my hand held scales and it said 8-14. She was spawned out, but long as a freight train. My parter was talking to me on the phone later and reminded me that one of my sets of scales was broken and reading way light. I remembered it then. Later, I caught an 18 1/2" beautiful smallie that was around 3 1/4 pounds. My scales said she weighed 13 ounces. I will never know because we just took a couple of pictures and turned her loose real quick. Everyone that saw the pictures says she was definitely a double digit.
A friend was fishing right down from us and pulled in a beautiful 9 pounder. She had eggs dripping out when he brought her on board. So, 2 quick pictures and he turned her loose by the spot he caught her. They were moving on the beds out of the river channel by the dam this weekend. I watched 4 over 8 pounds get caught beside us. Seems green pumpkin red was definitely the color of choice this weekend with the cloudy conditions. All those fish I mentioned were on that color.

Tommy I think Sat. fish was bigger than 8# it looks as big as the 11 in the photos. The 8 has some girth to it. They are both nice fish and a nice smallie..![]()
