Chrsi is right but I won't make it till the last week of March and first week of May.I was there last year the same time and watched the water cool down 12 degrees.Hoping for better luck this year.Maybe see you there.Good Luck

Dang it that is when my break was last year!(I teach school) I go on a fishing trip every year for my spring break with the ol man. We have gone to florida each of the last 4 years, (Big O, Harris Chain, Stick Marsh back to back) and are thinking of heading to texas this year and stay at Amistad Lake Resort, but in April.

Fork is closer and would be cheaper. The fishing will heat up on Fork starting this month through the first of March

The first week of March on Amistad is so awesome that I put our first WTTT tournament there that weekend. I know that most of the motels are already booked up for all of March. That's how good it is there then! But, the wind may blow 30 mph there in March, making 6 foot and larger waves. Seen them 9 and 10 feet tall there before! Now that the lake is 100% full, the wind will make even a bigger difference. I love Amistad though and ANY time of the year I can go there is when I go! March will be spawning time and the big girls will be moved up shallow. You can actually watch 10+ pounders swimming along the banks. Catching them is the trick though.

Anglers Lodge is the place to stay though. Sorry for upsetting Byron, but Amistad Resort and Lodge has way too many thefts at it. They need to hire a security guard to patrol the motel at night. Seen as many as 12 boats hit in one night there. It happened when we held our tournament there and some entrants stayed there. They were trying to borrow rods and baits the next morning for the tournament.

Do not forget about Rayburn, Toledo, or Choke Canyon. Amistad and Falcon would be fun but they are also at pool first time in a long time, basically a new lake for everyone. I have heard Falcon is not fishing that great right now.
