I would not go across there. Been having drug gang wars on the other side.

Not really Ryan but The north side of town is very nice and has some shopping places.

    People there are extremely friendly.

Holiday Inn EXPRESS is a good place to stay.

They have an all night security gaurd on staff.

I felt a lot safer their than I did at Amistad.

I accidentally ended up downtown once.(wouldnt do that again)

Everything on the loop is new and nice and clean.

If you have any questions send me an IM.

PLEASE! Do NOT enter Mexico! Not only are there almost-daily shootouts in the streets but there's a rising trend toward kidnappings of tourists. The media in the area tries to minimize the risk but the risk is VERY real.
We don't owe that corrupt country anything. I wouldn't spend one red Peso over there.
Also, unless you have all required documentation re fish and boat permits, do NOT go near the Mexican side of the lake. I wouldn't even come within 300 yards of the marker buoys. There are plenty of bass on the U.S. side.
If you DO cross over to the other side of the lake be aware that there are thousands of gill nets in the water. You'll find them in your trollmotor prop, big motor prop, and you'll hang up in them on a regular basis. If you are seen cutting one to free up, you may have to deal with an irate Mexican gillnetter and/or their corrupt and brutal "law" officers. This can result in confiscation of your boat, tackle, and personal bling.
God forbid they find even an empty shell casing in your boat 'cause Mexican jails are not very luxurious and the "fines" will bankrupt you. That'll make payments on a confiscated boat all the more painful...y'think?
And, if you insist on crossing over, you'd better be darned sure to get outta there before dark. On more than one occasion, years ago, a partner and I had to spend the night anchored in a cove on the Mexican side because wind made the lake too "tall" to safely cross. Those were scary nights and the lawlessness has increased by a hundred-fold since then what with drug smugglers and "coyotes" smuggling human trash across.
    To sum up...NO!

I have never been on Falcon but I have visited Amistad several times. I've never felt the need to visit the Mexican side. Fishing has always been very good on our side. I have no need to cross the boarder to shop. We go to fish and there are always plenty of eating places on our side and Del Rio has enough shopping to satisfy us.

Yep, a couple of years ago, a Police Chief in Nuevo Laredo only lived about for about 7 hours after he was hired.

    Re: Laredo Tx? (tritonryan)

They are correct. Laredo area is one of the worst (most dangerous) area of the border. Do Not go to Nuevo Laredo. What to do? There is Lake Casa Blanca North of town which is not large, but a 12 pounder was caught there a couple of years ago. Then there is Falcon at Zapata, TX , and Amistad at Del Rio, Tx., within reasonable driving distance. I need say no more!

p.s. As said above, if you do fish the Mexican side of Falcon or Amistad, EVERYONE in the boat must have a Mexican fishing permit, but you don't need to go to the Mexican side to catch fish! A Mexican boat permit is no longer required.
