    2001 Ficht error code 27

    Hello,

    I have a 2001 225 Ficht that shows an error code 27.
    S# g04947228 m# e225fpxsif
If I run for say 30 minutes and then turn the motor off, it will not restart until I wait for about 5 minutes. No warnings while running. Any ideas?
    Maybe a regulator problem?
I installed a New battery - new cables also.
    Thanks..

Code 27 is voltage higher than expected range. Most of the time it is an internal problem in the EMM, but a faulty battery, corroded connections/cables, or loose terminals can give the same code. Make sure all the nuts are tight on clean terminals, including a shut-off switch if you have one.

To find out for sure, voltage readings with a digital meter are required on the 12V circuits and voltage drop tests should be done also.

    Thanks for the fast response.
I will go thru everything this weekend.
I will also take some voltage reading and see what it is doing.
    Thanks again.

Re: 2001 Ficht error code 27 (Avenger)

    Hi All,

Ok I think I might have an answer to the error code 27.
I checked everything today and here are the results.
Before starting the enging the Battery voltage was 12.7v
after starting and at idle (760rpm) it was:
    Battery 14v and 26/40v was 39.3v

    At 1000rpm it was:
    battery - 14.6 and 26/40 - 39.3v

To me this all looks OK.
I do remember when I first cranked the engine before the last outing I had a 35amp charger attached to the battery (I know that is not a good thing) and the warning horn went off after the engine started. I think this is where the code came from. I cleared the code from the computer today and will run the boat tomorrow.
    Thanks again...
    Billy

Re: 2001 Ficht error code 27 (Avenger)

    Hi All,

Just re visiting the post here...
I still get the error code whie I run the engine.
I checked all the connections so I guess it is the ECU\EMM.
I have a second engine that I could swap ECUs with.
Is ther a way to save the ECU settings and restore them later?
I guess I could use two laptops to do the swap without erasing one of them.
I will look for a service center first to get mine repaired.
    Thanks

DFI is the right place to send it for repair,in fact it may be the only place.
They are great people to deal with, turn around is real fast. They are not cheap though.!
    Heres a link for them.http://www.dfitechnologies.com/
    Good Luck.

The EMM on my 01 250 was sent in to DFI in July due to the 81,82,83 etc. codes. They replaced the ignition capacitor. Cost me about $700. I got it back and did two tuna trips when I noticed 15+ volts on my ammeter. It threw the 27 code when I got into the harbor and turned off my radar. Sent it back to DFI and they replaced the regulator at no charge. So far, so good. Next time the EMM goes out I will buy a new one from BRP, unless it is still warranted by DFI. They don't mess with the programming. I did check the timing as everyone suggests. One more thing, I originally thought DFI would go completely through the EMM and replace all known weaknesses. This is not the case. They only replace the components that went bad based on the codes you tell them and their inspection. The EMM can (in my case did) have other failures in the future. This is why I will buy a new one from BRP the next time. IMO it was a good deal for $700. It wouldn't be such a good deal to repair the same EMM for $1,400 the second time around.

    Re: (deb0650)

My 2001 250 Evinrude, according to my GPS, is putting out 14.9-15.1 at all rpms. (had a post on here regarding it). And it reads 13.3-13.5 when the engine is not running. This is probably too high right? I've had no Check Engine light come on but that may be because it's not high enough to trigger it. Need to get it looked at?

Before I sent my EMM to DFI for the second time, they said I could continue running the outboard at a higher voltage output but I might risk frying my electronics depending on how much voltage they can take. Same goes for the batteries. Theoretically they could boil off electrolyte. What I did was run all my electronics (radar, sounder, chartplotter) and lights to use up the extra voltage. You might also put a separate voltmeter on it to make sure if your other gauge is accurate.

    Re: (deb0650)

I have just received the error 27 on my 2001 ficht. I know it is an overvoltage error. Has anyone had anyluck with changing the voltage regulator on the EMM or alternatively simply putting an external regulator on the system to save overcharging the battery. Is this likely to cause any other problems??

    Wayneg:
My EMM is performing fine after the regulator fix. From what I have learned OMC used less than quality components in their EMMs and a thin circuit board. This, coupled with a less than stellar cooling tube leads to overheating of the circuit board and other components when overheating of the outboard occurs. The overheating eventually will lead to failure of some component of the EMM. Like I said previously, the best fix is to buy a new BRP EMM, but it costs twice as much as fixing the OMC unit. The BRP EMM was re-engineered with superior components and revised cooling. One way to think of this is a $1,400 EMM is a heck of a lot cheaper than a $15,000 new outboard.

    Re: (deb0650)

    Thanks for the info.

I have an old emm from my loacl boat shop and am looking at trying to fix the problem myself - I have a fairly good electronics knowledge.

I have looked through the power circuit of the boards as I am assuming this is where the error resides. I will have to hunt around on the net for info regarding this error and the fix for it.

My problem is that the new emm in Australia is $3500 and a new outboard is only $12000.

Thanks for your information and any other info that you may have.
