    steam cleaning #3 cyl

    i have a johnson 150 faststrike here a pinging sound for a couple of secounds when i let off at 5000 rpms or above anything below that nothing no lose of power
    checked the cyl with the spark plugs out and #3 is totally clean comp check was fine 135 on 3 any idas or help appr thanks

    Welcome to the boards! It happens in the 60* motors alot when chopping the throttle from WOT the piston skirts ping on the cylinder wall. Check all cylinders but you should be fine.

    Did the spark plug from #3 have any water?
    Usually a "steam-cleaned" cylinder means water is entering the cylinder which causes the "steam-cleaning".
    You could have a leak around the cylinder head.
    Each cylinder has an o-ring seal plus sealer around all the water-flow passages.
    If necessary pull the head and inspect.

    As ChampionMan stated the noise you hear when you chop the trottle is called decell knock and is normal.

    the only time it dose it is when on plain and running 5000 rpms or above and let off if i run at 4000 or 4500 nothing

    sportwin i think u was right pulled the head last night #3 is clean 1 and 5 has some carbon on them think i will replace the o rings and reseal dont think this is normal
    i have pics but dont know how 2 post them thanks for help
