    Gearcase for 250 Ficht 2003

At present have a 2003 Ficht 250 with a stock Magnum Gearcase, Ser #05025804. I’m wondering if the new Lightning gearcase will fit this motor. Since the gear ratio is taller will I gain MPH, or will I be wasting money? At present average tournament speed is 71-72 MPH.
Engine is strapped to a Ranger 521VX 03. The boat also has a 6” CMC hydraulic jackplate.

    Thanks, Markus

Re: Gearcase for 250 Ficht 2003 (MarkusBrants)

i believe the lightnin 1 which i have on my 225 ho DI is 1:86. I believe the magnum standard case with no bullet is a 1:85. Therefore i would say the magnum is actually aka taller. But the bullet nose and case on the L1 is lighter iwas told and therefore a few more mph. But not as sturdy as the mag. case. I would say the best for top end is supposivley the 1:71 in the L2 case. BUt makes it harder to turn bigger blades on heavier rigs. Hence im turning a 29 asx on a tr20. Garfish had the prop prior and couldnt get out of the whole with the L2 1:71 case. But in turn is faster like having a 3rd gear rather than staying in 2nd. Plus being on a ranger..... heavvvvvy hull. low 70s is doing well. Ive been on a few rangers that didnt make to 70. So. relibilty might your best bet. If you wanna go fast a lighter hull will do the trick but ur gonna sacrafice the ride. Always got to give and take for what is best to your standards. Hope this helps alittle.

If you are getting over 70 mph with your current setup on a 521 vx, I wouldn't change a thing. A lightning LU will be less durable and I doubt you would see any increase in top end speed, especially when you are tournament loaded.

Markus, if it were me i would look into keeping the mag. case and switching out gear sets, that is if there is nothing wrong with your housing. The bullet nose on the lightning case looks cool but does not actually help out(performace wise)unless you are running the boat at speeds over 80 mph, or so i have been told. I currently run a 250HO and it has the L2 case with the 1:71 ratio turning a 29" SRX 5800 R's @ 84.7 mph on a 21xrd bullet, i am turning a bigger prop than most but i have a light hull. By the way i came out of a Champion to a Bullet and the ride is better in the bullet than the champion ever thought about, so go get you a Bullet and pass the 70 mark and get into the 80's and 90's

You Bullet guys make me sick

My question is how is the lighting lower doing on the 250 ho motors? It has got to be a good amount of the speed with these motors. I would like to see a test done by a dealer somewhere that took the lightning off and installed a magnum and see what the results would be on the ho and also with the lightning on the regular 250. I have the same setup with a 2003 250 on a 521.

And why is it that we make you sick????? The L2 case with the 1:71 gears seem to be running fine, they seem to be pulling good #'s. There are a few people on here that are running them on other boats putting speeds on the board well into the upper 70's and lower 80's. No matter what gears you have the boat has alot to do with it, weight and set-up

    Tom,
Since you have the same boat & motor, what kind of numbers are you getting with your set-up? What prop are you running with? I agree a lightning case on a regular 250 (Ficht model) coupled with a heavy hull (Ranger) would be interesting!!

I run a consistant 67 or 68. Turning a 28 raker and 25 gade. I am carying 4 batteries and everything but a kitchen sink. Just put a new gear case on mine last year. Wish I had gone with the lightning
