    ETEC Question

I noticed on my buddies Opti Pro XS that he cannot trim up anymore once the motor hits a certain point and he is moving. My 2008 250 Ho ETEC will allow me to trim the motor completely out of the water while running. Is there something wrong with my trim sensor?

    Thanks

    Re: ETEC Question (250ETECHO)

That seems odd most motors will only trim to the top of the trim. The tilt should not have even close to enough power to keep the motor going up. It is only trim up to the top of the twin cylinders then it becomes tilt.

How high are you running your jackplate?

I can trim the motor up to the tilt and use the tilt till motor is up and out of the saddles! The jack plate has nothing to with this.

I know jackplate has nothing to do with trim. I was just wondering if you had it set high enough that your trim was blowing out the prop. It just seems odd to me that your tilt is strong enough to push the motor up at WOT. My tilt will not move the motor if I am above say 2000 RPMs. Maybe the tilt on the newer motors is BIONIC

The reason why I ask, is last year I had the front trim switch at the bow get stuck causing the motor raise completely out of the water, scared the poo out of me I was running around 60 mph.

I can see how that would be no fun

    Re: ETEC Question (GaryL)

I can do it with my 99 150. I have one particular spot in the river where I run a gravel bar that is 2ft deep and 30 yards long. Right before I hit that particular spot I back my rpms down to 3000 hit the trim till I here the prop coming out of the water and slide across. The whole process only last for 3-4 seconds. After crossing the gravel bar I start trimming down then open her back up and keep running.

I have only done it a few times and would assume that is is hard on the trim. I would not do it for a prolonged period because the water pressure bottoms out and you have absolutely zero control of the boat. With only the tip of the skeg in the water you don't have enough control to turn the boat if you needed to make a turn.
