Tournament report Fayette 1-28-06
All I can say is DAMN!!!
Several years ago all the grass in Fayette disappeared and the fishing quite honestly got tuff. The loss of grass and a few people that couldn't read a measuring stick caused us to stop going to the slot lakes. Well since we kicked it back up this year after a layoff we couldn't have picked a better spot to go than Fayette.
The weather conditions were less than favorable; we had at least 20 MPH winds and rain most of the day. The only blessing in the weather was that it was nearly 70 degrees, which kept us from freezing to death. The bass were also very cooperative for this event. Most of us prefished on Friday and had good results. Clinton and I went out with Bob Green for a half-day Sonar class and learned a few new tricks Bob was a great guide. Pete has also been out with Bob for the sonar class and both of us agree it is worth the trip.
1st place honors went to Jeff Holley. Jeff fished alone and boated a five bass limit for a total of 27.02. Jeff used a Texas rigged full size Brush Hog in standing timber in 4-8 foot of water to catch his limit. It was good to have you fish with us again Jeff. Look forward to fishing with you again this year.
2nd place went to the team of Kevin & Mike. Kevin & Mike also managed a monster limit of 22.05 anchored by a 7.7lb big bass. Kevin & Mike used Texas rigged soft plastics in standing timber to catch their limit.
3rd place went to Pete and Terry who brought in a big limit of 20.05 lbs Pete and Terry used Carolina rigged soft plastics traps and swim baits fished over grass and on staging areas from 14 to 4 foot of water to boat there limit.
4th place went to William & Clinton. Clinton and I fished spinner baits and Carolina rigged soft plastics over grass on secondary points in 2 to 8 feet of water to boat a 5 bass limit that weighed 14.13 lbs.
Congratulations to everyone it was a great time and lots of fun. I hope to see all of you on Bastrop next month.
