1995 150 Faststrike Problem

Here is the skippy.....

My motor does not like to start. The only way I could get it to start the other day was open the throttle up, turn the ignition and prime at the same time. It ran when I had the throttle open but once I kicked it back to put it in gear she died. The thing blew white smoke like a train. I talked with the local repair shop (about 2 hours away) and they said it sounded like I needed carb kits?

I hate travel 4 hours to the dealer to fix this if I do not have to. I have been able to do most of my repairs without the travel. So......what do you all think?

Make sure the manual primer (red lever behind the air box) didn't get turned on.

The manual primer is in the correct position.

This is my course of action unless anyone has better ideas.....
1. Remove and replace the current plugs
2. Complete a compression test (just in-case, it would make me feel better)
3. Do the carb kits.
