I've got a 83 15hp johnson that wont start. It has good spark getting gas to the plugs and good compression. I've checked the coil and trigger values under the flywheel and they show good. Seems like its out of time and the flywheel key is good. Sometimes it will backfire a little and that's all. I lost and need some help the Ducks are flying!!!
A friend of mine couldn't get his little 25 mercury to crank one day. He called me over to help. It had been sitting for 2 years and I smelled of the gas and wheeeewwwiiieee! That stuff smelled terrible! We changed the gas and I said while we're at it might as well pull the carb and clean it out too. Done all that, and it still wouldn't crank. While I was cleaning the carb, my friend was putting in new plugs. We were getting good fire and gas too. All it would do is backfire sometimes. I told him that it sounded like it wasn't firing at the right time. I said "you didn't cross those plug wires did you?" He said "No, I looked at them before I put the new plugs in". I said, well go ahead and cross them and see what happens.......cranked first pull

I checked everything again today and still won't run. Can electronics check good with a ohm meter and still be bad?
