200 ETEC warning lights come on when cold start lever is shut off

I just had a new powerhead put on my 200 ETEC. It is still less than 10hrs on it. The problem I am having is when I start the engine I let it warm up and the warning lights cycle and everything is fine. Than i run up river several miles and shut it off and fish with kicker motor for awhile. Than I start ETEC and use the cold start lever and let all lights cycle and they shut off than soon as I push the lever down to the off postion the four lights all come on at once with alarms. I shut the engine down and restart all is fine!! I have asked the dealer and he said it is a loose connection??

By advancing the throttle before starting you may perhaps be signaling the motor to into the winterizing procedure, and it responds with a reply signal using the four alarm anunciator lamps.

Why are you advancing the cold start throttle? I don't think that is part of the recommended starting procedure for an E-TEC.

As Jim says, there is no such thing as a cold start lever on an E-Tec.
To start her, just turn the key, and do nothing else.
Oh, yes, there is one more thing you can do: RTFM

There is no cold start on an etec. By anvancing the cold start lever you are indicating to the engine that you want to start the winterizing procedure. It does it automatically for with by placing the lever in different positions as descibed in your owners manual.

That lever is NOT to be used unless you are going to winterize the motor. Your dealer should be well aware of this also. So many are "programmed" to use that lever as a warm up because of the past, I wish BRP would have come up with something different so not to confuse most or a warning sticker on the lever.

Thanks for the information guys.. .. I did not know this, as I was never told...I have ordered owners manuals for this motor since I never had them when I bought the boat package. I have in the last three days put @ 10 hrs on the engine and I have enjoyed it for performance and power. I did quit using the cold start lever all together and everything is fine now.
