    warm afternoon: fish on

I dont know how you guys can stand not fishing.
I caught six bass and two nice crappie in the occoquan river.
    the bass were small.
the river was still about 80% iced.
I caught the fish on 1/16 jig & a twister grub, real slow, in 10 to 15' of water.
    the afternoon was really nice.
there were some big shad, like 8 to 12", rolled up dead and fozen in the ice.
    maybe 6.
toward dark a bald eagle was picking them out of them out of the softened ice and flying away.
a nice fellow happened along, said he had been jigging crappie along the pilings there for 20 years.
said he stuck a really big bass last year doing same. couldnt lift it out of the water onto the pier with 4# line. Some times i wonder what i will do when same eventually happens .
be a nice problem to have tomorrow

Thats cool. My schedule is to busy durning the week to get out and the fact I can't stand the cold , Seems the older I get, the easier I get cold.
BTW I hate the cold, snow and ice.

    , for spring !!!!!!!!!!!!

i wear 2 pairs of pants, 5 or 6 shirts, under armor gloves and hat, etc... takes a few minutes but far better than waiting for spring.

i saw a pair of bald eagles yesterday. one flew so close i could see his eyes.
i saw a guy in a boat chop ice by hand for and hour to access an open area some thirty yards away (never did see him land a fish).

i stood in silent reverie as the snow fell for 3 hrs, casting tiny jigs , with the hair on the back of my neck tuned for the slightest indication of a strike.

the largemouth and crappie take the offering without a tick, and only the subtlest resistence.

i never seem to tire of the game. in fact the longer it goes on , the more engrossed i become. when i pull up and have a spongy throb i never know if the culprit will be perch, crappie, shad, bluegill or bass

Man you have a strong desire to fish in the elements of winter everyday.
I'm just cold thinking about it.
Cold is the main reason I've cut way back on the hunting I do.

I know with each fish you catch the feeling of the cold must disappear!!

Keep the reports coming, I enjoy reading them !!!!
