Mark there should still be some grass and if there is grass fish will be in it!! As the tide falls, start looking at the outside edges of the deeper grass, that in more then 3 feet of water. In Oct can find some good fish on about any of the creek channels, crankbaits, and T-rigs will work good. You natural colors in soft plastics will be your best bet, green pumpkin, watermelon, pumpkin seed.

If I go up the creeks such as the creek were the launch is at I believe Dave Lefebre on the Stren tournament there do I have to go way up them or just focus on the mouths of the creeks?. Im am just trying to limit my practicing to a smaller area instead of running all over creation. Im not sure if the grass people talk about is in the main river or the creeks.

    Mark,
The grass they are speaking of is both in the creeks and on the main river. Up Mattawomen creek which is where you will launch from is a lot of grass. I have done ok up that creek and a lot of people do fish up there. Then the main river has some nice grass beds too. I think you can fish the grass anywhere and catch a limit but certain areas (and they change weekly) hold the bigger fish. Just my opinion. I would think that time the top water will still be on and the edge's of grass and/or wood if you can find it not in the grass will work great. Deep is a relative term on the potomac...lol

Mark, deep is a relative term on the Potomac, remember at certain tide levels the bass on the Potomac are just a comfortable with 6 inches of water on their back as they are with 6 feet!!

    Mark,

I assume you're fishing the Weekend Series Regional on the Potomac. I qualified for the Patoka Lake Regional in Indiana fishing the Capital Division (Potomac River)... my non-boater who travels with me is fishing the Potomac Regional qualifying thru the Tar Heel Division. I don't think he's hooked up with a boater for prefishing yet. If you need a non-boater to show you around the river I can give you his info. It's legal for you to prefish with another competitor in the tournament during the official practice period.

Jeff and I will be on the Potoamc this weekend for a club T.

What's up Dale, hope you have a great trip up here. I haven't been on the river for a couple of week because of my classic on Buggs, but I'm sure I can muster up some info for you. Will shoot you an IM with my number, call me!!
