Heading sensor will not pair...one other thing ?

    Hello folks,

I purchased a MinnKota Terrova with Ipilot and HB Helix7 in February, I'm green about all this stuff.

I was able to get pretty much everything working thanks to this forum and many hours of reading.

I went to the lake a few days ago and noticed the heading sensor was not on so I tried 6 or 7 times to re pair and it would not work.

The "one other thing" I had recently read on here about spot lock not holding the spot as good as it should, I have that issue also, it was about doing the circle thing, so per the thread I was going to circle again but with TM... smaller circles if I understand the thread, well I could not find on the remote under systems the "sensor calibration" or "offset", they are not shown.

Any advise on these issues ?

    Appreciate your time and instructions

    Thanks

    Dave

When you power up the heading sensor are you getting any red light on it?

Assuming that you have the link version of i-Pilot if the heading sensor has no power” flashing red light” the sensor calibration will not show on the remote.

    Morning,

I have the "ipilot" as mentioned in my first post not the "ipilot link"

When I power up the heading sensor, it blinks blue like the instructions says and I then hold the pair button on the TM and after approx. 20 sec. it shuts off with no pairing.

I originally did this like directions says and all worked fine for 2 months until last week as stated.

A friend purchased the same as myself at the same time and we have done the same thing on his and his is still working like it should.

I'm lost for now, thanks to all that has responded.

Try updating the I-Pilot software by using the I-Pilot app on your phone. Once it is updated try to pair it again. Motor has to be deployed to pair and update software.

well that sounded like a good idea however the phone app will not pair either !

I did talk to MK, he said it was probably some board fail !

There is 2 asc places within 50 miles of me, one said to bring it in and it would probably take 3 weeks before they could look at it... first come first serve, not too happy with that.

The other one is suppose to call me today to work out a time to look at it.

I'll follow up with an outcome when I know more

    Thanks

Are you trying to pair it through your settings or through the app? It will only work by pairing through the settings. Some time I have issues paring and it takes a while. I have to put the phone right next to the head.
If that don't work then I would have the GPS Module replaced.

    Just an update

Went to Tactical Service in Mooresville In. Nice people, he checked things out and said it appears to be the heading sensor.

He was able to pair the remote and my app on my phone, he used his phone and then updated my phone !

He has ordered a new heading sensor and will call me when it comes in.

The circle thing still does not appear on my remote but he wants to see if the sensor fix will help.... will see !

Ok, another update for those interested.

Went to Tactical this morning for Bob to replace the heading sensor (puck !), put it on and everything appears to be working

I had my doubts on the remote that did not show the sensor calibration, etc but it's there now, did not understand how that "puck" would have anything to do with it but now we know!

Should anyone have a similar issue, check the heading sensor.

Now I need to go to the lake later and redo the calibration and see if the shorter circle helps with staying on spot lock closer than 6ft.

    Thanks
    Dave

I don't believe smaller circles in calibrating the Sensor will improve the spot-lock position. The circles are for calibrating the compass which is used in Jogging and knowing which direction to move the boat. It allows you to fine tune the physical installation by providing an offset value. You could remove the Sensor and not even affect the spot-lock performance. You can test that if you have it on a switch and shut if off during spot-lock. Turning it off would only cause you to lose the Jogging function. The spot-lock performance is based primarily on GPS performance and Boat Scale setting.
