Would there be anything wrong with mixing these two oils in a 50/50 ratio to run in your Evinrude or Johnson? It would cut costs a little and you would be assured of a good synthetic blend!

XD 50 is a synthetic blend, just use that and de carb once a year, money ahead.![]()
I run the XD 50 in my 05 ETEC where can you pick up the de carb stuff at?![]()
Engine Tuner at your local dealer. Sea Foam every third tank will help too.
You can always run the xd-100 one tank full then the xd-50 the next tank. What engine?? I used to run the xd-50 during the warmer months and xd-100 during the winter on my 03 DI.
I have an 05 200 HO DI. I have been running this 50/50 mixture for about a month now. Thought I'd throw this out there to see what others thought it.
My $.02
How much more is XD100 compared to XD50 - $10/gallon?? How many gallons per year do you use? In my case, I use about 2.5 - 3 gallons per year. (Yeah, I know winter in Wisconsin sucks!) That works out to an additional $25-$30 per year. DFI outboards cost what to rebuild? To me it was a no brainer........I'll pay the extra money for the good stuff anyday. Besides that you don't need to decarb with XD100

The cost difference is around $10 -15 per gal. I'll probably use about 10 gallons per year . I fish 12 months out of the year down here in Alabama.
Bob, you make some good points. I may go to all XD100 for the reason of not having to decarb. That in itself might make it worth the extra money.
Now why would you gamble on the decarb, after you made the choice to run the better oil.?
Engine tuner, and spark plugs are still cheaper than a rebuild as a result of carbon deposits!
Do as you will,I have made the move to the XD-100,and will still decarb at least once a year as part of my winterizing. It's cheap insurance and only takes a little time.
Good luck!

Before you decarb, take a peek inside the cyls with a borescope you may be surprised!! I run nothing but xd-100 in my 03 DI and it actually runs better than it did before!!
I have no doubt that it will be better, but the engine tuner is cheap and only takes a few minutes to run it thru, and I will continue to use it as part of the annual clean and tune!
No offense meant,just my opinion.
It was because of you guys on hear, and especially you, that I made the leap, and I'm running an older FICHT,so I will feel better if I do it!
I do intend to monitor it closely and take a set of before and after pics,to remind me!
Great discussion!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the main reason that you don't have to de-carb with the XD-100 is that you would have changed the programming in your engine to a different (lesser) oil/gas ratio? Seems like if you don't change your engine programming you better plan on continuing to de-carb.
I wish somebody could just answer his question. Can you mix the two and do you get a little added protection for your motor by doing so?
The only engines that you change the programming on are the ETECs. Most of the people that I know running ETECs never change the program and run the XD100 anyway with the engine set to run XD50. If you run XD100 no decarb is necessary.
I just came in from the garage. Totally pumped out the oil reservoir and refilled with XD100. What the heck, might as well put the best oil in the ole Evinrude. I have 4 gallons of XD50 if anyone is interested and needs some.
Yes you can mix them. But IMO why would you when XD 50 is already 50% synthetic, now you mix XD 100, you've created 75% synthetic mixture. Just run XD 100 and you won't have any carbon build up. my .02![]()

It definately can't hurt. No offense taken here.
