    Moving and need help/advice

I'm headed to Oklahoma next year and as the plan is, this will be for good. This will be my "twilight tour" and I will retire from the Marines here and I know I want to stay in the NE Corner. Will be working in Broken Arrow and was planning on living in Wagoner, but now I'm questioning this decision. I'm looking at properties with around 10 acres so I can have a shop for all my hobbies (boat and "toys") and be able to fish multiple lakes with short distances: Ft Gibson, Grand, Eucha, Spavinaw, etc. Trying to think of future work, schools for the boys and also follow on "work/living" for my oldest son who has Downs (assisted living skills). IF everything goes right I want to buy next spring/summer.
If you were in this scenerio what would you advise? What towns should I be looking at? Only real experience is Grove/Jay/Eucha area. A little in Tulsa but don't want to live in the city per say.
    Appreciate all help!

    why are you questioning wagoner??
its a great community. good schools that are not too damn big but not small either.. good sports programs, band, etc. guess it depends on what the kids are in to lol!!
the school is progressing finally with some new classrooms and the performing arts center, the new stadium and turf upgrades and a new track facility.. we aint BA, union or jenks but for a 4A school we hold our own..
most all us parents know each other and work as a team keeping the kids in check LOL!!!
dependin on where in BA its a fairly short commute. i live on the east side of wagoner and work on the tulsa/BA border. its a 30 minute commute.

i can be on the loading ramp on gibson in 4 minutes from my driveway.

BA is the city,, all just part of Tulsa now along with jenks, bixby, catoosa etc.

i guess its gonna depend on what youre really looking for and the order of importance of those things...

oh and pryor and coweta are both stinkin tigers,,, go bulldogs!!!

if you have any questions dont hesitate to ask,, send me an im if i can help

Re: Moving and need help/advice (Jigsisme)

I grew up on Eufaula and Muskogee was our "big town" for us to go to. Anyways, I'd say that the majority of the lakes you would fish around there (as if it was a club schedule) would be as far north as Grand lake (almost never any farther north than that) to as far south as Broken Bow in SE corner (probably rare on most tulsa area schedules but arguably one of the best lakes in the state and definately the most unique). With that being said, if it were me, (keep in mind that I'm in the club fishing mind set) I would look for something in the Muskogee area. That would include Wagoner, Ft. Gibson, and even all the way out to Tahlequah. I have family that teaches at Keys Schools (one of them teaches for the mentally challenged and swears it is one of the better schools in the state for those services). Anyways, its just outside of Tahlequah and very close to Lake Tenkiller. Its a small school but growing fast.
To be honest, Muskogee and any town around there for that matter is kind of rough but it's just like any other town in the country. It still has its nicer areas but has crime also. As a military man myself, I'd tell you to think of anytown that had a military installation in it and think about it. It was probably a little rough but you could get outside the city a little ways and everything was fine. I hope this helps.

School system wise, if you look at western Wagoner County, use the Broken Arrow School System. That area of Greater Tulsa is the fastest growing. You would have the Wagoner County RWD 4 for water, don't get in RWD 5. The price of new homes would run from 110 to anything high you want. Add to that, the cost of 9 acres. You have the convenience of Tulsa area shopping and businesses, 30 min. to Ft Gibson lake, 45 min. to Hudson lake, 1 hr to Grand lake, Tenkiller lake 1hr 15 min. BassPro is less that 1/2 hr. Wagoner County has substantially lower property and sales tax. The new Army Reserve location is the best and latest. For future resale don't be in Coweta Schools, be in BA school system.

All this said, I live in Jenks, so I'm only giving you my experience as a professional engineer that has work with most of the above agencies.

Good luck and welcome to "Green Country", well we're brown right now, but that's what its called.
