    outboard break in

hi guys i picked up my newly rebuilt 1998 johnson venom 200 yesterday.,installed on my tr20 triton boat.the engine builder instructed me to run 100;1 in the fuel tank for 1 full tank-he said for the first 5 hours -no wot at all, then lats 5 of breakin short burst of wot.im just looking for your guys experiences on break in also this engine is kinda growly to get going.its been awhile since i had a carb engine so maybe its me,however it seems to stall often when put into gear.any thoughts, maybe because of double oiling?

    25:1
That would be double oil as it normally runs 50:1.

On my rebuilds I would run 25:1 for 10 hours.

    Fast Idle for 15 minutes
    45min at 3500 RPM
4 hours with short bursts coming the last hour up to 5000rpm (maybe a burst to WOT, you will get the itch!)
Last 5 hours, varry RPM (higher RPM's than the previous 5 hours) with busrts up to WOT

Change plugs, check head bolts, and go back to 50:1.

This is what I did, but I have heard of doing it differently, so who know? What I do know is that I never had problems with the internals after any rebuilds.

I actually installed an hour guage and it made things much easier.

    Good Luck!

Maybe the mechanic means to add oil to a 100-1 mixture in the gas tank. That much additional oil along with the motor already adding oil at a 50-1 mixture during the first tank?

yea i called him back and he said 1.5 oz's per gallon.so thats 100;1 right.i think 50;1 is 3.3 oz per gallon.so i figure the pump in the motor is at 50.1 and fuel in the tank is 100.1 so thats roughly 25.1?i hope
