    Water/Fuel Filter

I had the dealer put a filter on my 225 ETEC HO, a few weeks ago. After they put it in, the gas ball wouldn't stay hard. I pulled the gas bulb and replace it, pumped it up, point up in the air 20 times or so to clear air out completely. Re-attached. Same thing again, ball would get weak, boat seem to run fine but I have heard that I could burn the motor up with this happening. So I pulled the lines off the filter and hooked up directly again and the problem went away, ball stays hard again. Any suggestions for the reason that when connected to fuel/water filter the ball will not stay hard? I checked all the connections and they were tight. Only thing that I can figure out is that the fuel/water filter and assembly is Mercury. Looking for suggestions and what is the best filter system out there. Thanks, Les Ems, Maverick Pro Guide Service,

    Les,
Racor is the best, make sure the filter is TIGHT and the threads on the fittings have teflon tape on them.
