First time on the Ohio River

Last night me and a couple friends fished the OH river for the first time (ever). We launched down town and fished the main river east of the city. I would have to say for a first experience it was better than what I expected. The water clarity amazed me...I expected mud, mud and more mud but I would say foot and a half to two feet visibility. Every spot we chose to fish had schools of shad with predator fish jumping periodically. We fished from about 5:30pm to 8:15pm and caught 7 bass (3 LM 4 SM). All the fish were small though (10inchers) but were really healthy. I think a few more outings I could probably find some better fish, but it was fun to get out and explore new water.

The river can be fun or it can be painfull! This time of year there are tons of bait fish on the main river and bass out there with them, sometimes it is just hard to find the keepers.

The River is great! As you mentioned though, tough to find the keepers some days.
