I'm thinking of heading up this Sat. 14th and was wondering how the fishing is ? Are they in shallow ? Thinking about going out of Black River and fishing from Avon point to Ruggles area. I never fished Erie this early and was looking for some info. Thanks
Yep look 12' and shallower.. Taking 2morrow off and heading to Islands area for good half day..
Is it not closed season for smallmouth??
You cannot keep the fish but you can still catch them.

Was up yesterday for half day.. Look shallow in the 12' and under range.. We caught ours on cranks.. Caught around 6 or 7 and lost another 3 or 4 cause they were eating it right at the boat..
Weather man was wrong as usual and started to get nasty so we headed to harbors for last couple hours and beat on the green fish..
Best 5 yesterday would of been in the 18 to 19# range..
i usually head up around memorial day for a week....i wouldnt be scared to try a tube
See your from Lexington, I grew up fishing Clearfork....best days of fishing ever several year ago between the 1st Island and the foundation....about 12 Green all over 4lbs..... Dad (Tom Miller) got one this fall 6lb 4oz down there....really think there are a few over 8lbs swimming around.
Any news on Erie? I live in Medina and hit it hard this spring with little luck...a few here and there but nothing to brag about. Figure the water temp has got to be getting low enough for the fall feed.

Water by shore was around 64-65 degree's Saturday when I was up there.. Launched out of the Portage River for a club deal.. I stayed around Portage cause it was little bumpy and water was a mess for the previous flooding and blowing.. My co and I both caught limits and 4 of my 5 were smallies and 3 of his 5 were too.. We were largie fishing and just got into a nice little school of them.. Caught them in 1-3' of water..
