    Evinrude oil

I know this will be a simple question for y'all. I figure I could find the answer somewhere on the internet, but I guess it's easier to just ask here. What is the difference between the red and blue evinrude 2-stroke oil? I know the red is XD 30 and the blue XD 50. Is it just a weight difference or more than that?

    Re: Evinrude oil (rowdyrabbit)

XD- 30 is natural oil out of the ground with some additives. (Good)
XD-50 is a semi-synthetic oil blend with additives. (Better)
XD-100 is a full synthetic oil. (Best)
Use the highest quality oil your budget can afford, if using XD-30 or XD50, recommend adding Seafoam when filling your gas tank and decarb motor atleast once a year.

So if you use The XD 100 you dont need to decarb or at least not as often and If I am using XD 50 is it better to just stay with it or OK to change been told once I been using same oil for a while best to stick with it..

Unless you have deep pockets, the xd-100 would be pretty cost prohibitive. Most carb owners run the xd-50 and decarb once yearly or 100 hours.

I know the feeling well bud!! I've started the xd-100 campaign when things were a little better and I'm using what I managed to buy up at cheaper prices. I've only got a couple gallons left.................

XD-50 is fine for a carbed motor. Ain't bad for a dfi either.

A related question. I am using West Marine TC-W3 oil in my carbed 2000 Johnson 115 with carbonguard added to the fuel and XD-50 in my 2001 Evinrude 250 DFI and also carbonguard in the fuel. If I changed to XD-100 in the DFI do I still need carbonguard since it has more of it in the oil? Both get de-carbed each year with OMC spray tuner. Thanks.

In the dfi you do not need additives with the xd-100, and with the year round use of the 100 you don't need to decarb. The 100 used exclusively will actually clean your engine.................
