    Question about air compressors

    https://www.lowes.com/pd/CRAFTSMAN-6...sor/1000595167

I am currently using the one above for my spincast machine. This dam thing runs at least 50% of the time and is annoying. What do I need to get so it doesn't run all the time? Max PSI I need for my machine is 45 so do I just need something with a bigger tank or what?

    Yes, more volume=bigger tank.

If you don't have a leak anywhere then yes you need a bigger tank. I would buy the biggest you can afford if portability isn't a a necessity. The only thing pancake compressors are good for is the fact that they are light weight and very portable.

Im not sure a bigger tank alone will fix the issue. Typically bigger tank also equals bigger pump.

The pump won't have to fill the tank as often and when it does, it will fill it faster.

Well im no expert on this but then why would I not downsize the pump on my 135 gallon tank to make it fill faster ?

My move with my pancake compressor was getting a long air hose and leaving the compressor outside or in another room while using it.

If your use is intermittent, a 5 -7 gallon air storage tank will give you more run time (which your little compressor will then have to run longer to fill). For constant use, you need more CFM = a comp with more 'nads.

At a certain point in a mans life he should just get a two stage air compressor. They will last a lifetime with regular maintenance and they are so much better than the crap you can find these days. I'd get another MAC in a heartbeat, but most two stage air compressors are decent.

As a Band-Aid, you can get a storage tank and fill that to use, but if you buy a new one, I would go two stage and big as you have space for.

Most of the time I am spincasting at 30 psi and it only has to hold this for maybe 30 seconds at a time. So the consensus is I don't need more HP just something with a larger tank? Portability is not an issue since it will never be moved once it is set.

I bought some ear muffs in the meantime but I cannot run the compressor after 7pm because it disturbs everyone.

I suggest you get more CFM's and a bigger tank. California Air Tools makes many ultra quiet compressors to choose from. Home Depot sells then on line I think. Harbor freight now sells ultra quiet models for cheap, Not sure how long they will last. But you could always buy their protection plan.

You ain't kidding. My buddy is a builder and he has a couple of personal projects 2 hours away so he bought a cheapie at HF to leave on site and run his finish nailer. I think he paid something like $70-$80 after coupon. I couldn't believe how much quieter it is than my Ingersoll dual tank. We had it inside the little cabin and it didn't even interrupt conversation when it came on. If it hadn't been for a leaky connection at the tool, I doubt I would've even known it was there. But like you mention, will it last or do we consider it to be disposable?

I'd buy the 11 gallon steel storage tank from HFT for $42, and a couple lengths of hose. Stick the pancake where you won't hear it, run the hose to your shop and put a tee in there, with one side going to the tank and the other to your machine.

If you do buy a new one, and noise is a chief concern, go with an oiled pump. The oilless are cheap and maintenance-free but loud as balls.

My DeWalt finish nail compressor is extremely loud. I used to leave it in a different room, run the hose to the room I was trimming out
