    Tach Woes

    My tach goes off and on like a loose wire but other than the obvious ones on the back of the tach where else would you look this thing has plenty of wires to choose from. It's still the factory install as far as I can tell..

    Model and serial #'s please. Sounds like a rectifier/regulator. but the guys can help ya more with the #'s.

    The #s are in my sig as for the tach I see none I did go out and R&R all the wires going into the tach cleaned them real good and made sure they were real tight when they went back on . And also tried moving the Adjustment around 5 or 6 times of coarse putting back in the same place and after all that it's still the same.

    My bad on the #s. The reg/rec would be on top between the heads. See if you can see some melting in the potting or wires.

    I checked all that and It looks good too. Just some grime that I cleaned off made sure all screws were tight . Now you are talking about the blk box thats between the heads have 2 bolts and 2 nuts on studs and is partly under the flywheel cause thats what I checked. Also I went back to the Tach and chased some wires and nothin it comes on then goes of and now it's not showing the right RPM and I do have the adjuster in the back on 6, in fact at Idle it will show anywhere from 200 to 2300 and now sometimes when I shut down it won't go back to zero. Even with all the stuff it is doing there is no consistancy. While at idle it's just all over the place. It acts like it's been smokin crack or somethin. You think it could just be a bad tach even as much as I dont want to buy one but if thats it I guess I will. By the way Thanks a ton for all the help.

    That's the power pack the regulator rectifier is under that.
