Merc 115hp Trim only one direction
SERIAL # 2B251790
MERCURY 115 HP OUTBOARD
Trim only in one direction (up) at both engine & helm switch
swapped relays, still trim in only one direction (up)
crossed blue & green wires; still trim in only one direction (now down, was up)
Engine in under extended service plan however any dealer less than 3 hrs away is 3 - 6 weeks out.
I would prefer to identify the faulty part and replace out of my pocket ... this would be less expensive to me than waiting 3 - 6 weeks.
What is the most likely part to replace -or- what troubleshooting steps should I take to track down the faulty part.

Not 100% sure what you "crossed" with the blue and green wires (assuming you "swapped" them, but unclear whether this was the trim MOTOR leads or the activation circuits for the relays).
If your results are as-stated in Post# 1, it sounds like you have a break in the POWER circuit for the DOWN relay (or possibly a break in the blue activation wire between the switches and the relays).
When you swapped the relays- are you CERTAIN that you swapped the TRIM relays (and did not intermix a Main Power Relay or Fuel Pump Relay into the equation)? Trim relays are easily distinguished by the BLUE or GREEN wires in their base/plug. This is important since there are four relays there with the same part number.

Don, thanks for your response ... hope you can help me make some additional troubleshooting moves here.
Made an error in post #1
"Trim only in one direction (up) at both engine & helm switch"
There is trim down only ... no trim up
"are you CERTAIN that you swapped the TRIM relays (and did not intermix a Main Power Relay or Fuel Pump Relay into the equation)?"
Check the photo below, I'm certain that I swapped the trim relays. The relays swapped are the ones in the picture with a yellow square around them.
"possibly a break in the blue activation wire between the switches and the relays"
This sounds probable ... if you look at the photos again when the blue & green activation wires are swapped trim up will function, down will not
The issue is the same at the helm and the motor switches ... leads me to believe the switches and wiring are ok.
I suspect the part circled in yellow below maybe the culprit ... Don what do you think? There is a part number sticker on the part but I cannot find it online nor in Mercury Parts Catalog.

Now that makes more sense- Trim DOWN works, but trim UP does not.
Likely that either the trim limit module has been improperly calibrated, or the trim sender is not functioning properly.
There is an ORANGE wire on the trim limit module- it is normally DISCONNECTED (if someone attempted to plug it together that would mess up the calibration).
Setup/Calibration instructions should be in the Packet of materials that were received when the engine was purchased.
