    Road Oil Spot

Road crew filling pot holes with oily substrate and then covering with loose gravel fixes holes until it gets really hot, then the excess oil comes to top. I’ve got a spot of it that made it up on the deck carpet and got stepped on. Anyone know the best way and product to use for removal ?

I would try something mild to start with like Dawn dishwashing liquid. I'm sure someone one here will have the real answer.

Yeah two things I don’t want to happen is use something too harsh that makes the glue let loose or just smear it around. Right now it’s about the size of a nickel.

Blot the stain with NAPTHA. It WILL loosen the carpet glue if you soak it, until the NAPTHA evaporates. Then the glue will be as it was before. It will also remove the stain. But, by blotting, you should be able to remove the stain without getting past the carpet and into the glue.

I got road tar on the deck of a brand new boat a couple of years ago. Used gasoline to blot it, and then scrub, without soaking it. I avoided soaking it for concern about the glue lifting. It came right out.

The first thing they grab at the boat factories for anything on the carpet is Acetone.
