    Overheat Damage ????

A few days ago I posted my experience with my 2002 225 Overheating at 5500 RPM+. I have replaced the water pump and everything seems to be back to normal. Question is how sensitive are the DI engines to (1) overheat.

When the event happened I took the cover off and felt the heads right after shutting her down. They were hot but you could hold your hand on them for almost 2 seconds before having to remove. And by the way, I have run XD-100 since the engine was new.

For now everything seems to be fine, but what do you experts think about any damage I might have done. I am a little scared to hear what you might have to say. Thanks.

I am assuming that the overheat alarm went off and it went into slow mode to prevent any damage. When you replaced the water pump did you or the service dept. checked to see if the EMM had any codes set. If the EMM over heated that is a concern.

I replaced the Water Pump Myself. Yes, I believe it did go into Slow Mode. Alarm went off and engine slowed before I could react. When I did react (as quickly as I could) I shut her down. After cooling she seems to be fine. I had just put in new spark plugs before that trip to the lake. Pulled the plugs after overheat. They looked completely normal but I know that probably does not mean anything.

I know each case is different. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Take a compression test for piece of mind, more than likely you are OK.

It happened also for me and no problem since then (a damned piece of plactic bag around the gear case). If you reacted quickly after the alam went on: no problem. The important is to check that the EMM did not overheat. You can also have a look to the Max Engine Temp parameter to know if it is a big overheat or not.

    Re: Overheat Damage ???? (loulouton)

Thanks Guys, I feel a little better knowing this has happen to others as well. In retrospect I am upset with myself for letting this pump go too long. Never again. I am recording PSI numbers at different RPMs and when I get any drop what so ever I will replace pump. I am also hopeful that the XD-100 provided a little extra protection. Thanks Again.
