I called BRP w/o success, to verify that 2008/2009 225HO is available with the 1:86 lower unit gears. If it IS... available how do we get it, as in ordering it??

Hi Pro, what I was told last week at a meeting at BRP here in Sydney to highlight new 2009 product was as follows.
MY08 225HO had the 0.54 (1.86:1) ratio. Late MY08 and MY09 225HO have the new 250HO ratio of .58 (1.71:1). Easy way to determine is that any 08 model with suffix "H" will have the .58 ratio (this is late March and April production engines)
Also if the gearcase has removeable water inlets it will be the new style with beefed up gears and different ratio.
Hope this helps,
Huey.

It does help. I am trying to determine whether or not a 200 XL would be faster with the ideal setup etc, with the 1:86 or 1;71 gear ratio.
What exactly does the difference in gear ratios mean?
Simply put it like moving from 3rd gear to 4th gear in you car.
With 4th gear you will go faster but have a little less acceleration.
With 3rd gear you will have more acceleration but less speed.

Hi Pro, the 225HO are only available in Long shaft with the lightning gearcase, not XL. The XL engines run the Magnum gearcase and from 2009 models all V6 Magnum gearcase are the new SLE(Straight leading edge) Magnums-same gearcase the 300HP runs.
Are you looking at a 225HO or an XL 225HP/200HP?
Cheers,
Huey.
