    225 Hot Alarm

OK guys, after being a member for many years and sharing my advise and experiences, now I need your advise to confirm what I think about my hot alarm issue.

2002 225 HO - Boat Model In Signature

    Model E225FHLSNF
    Ser 04993702

Very little trouble with this engine. Owned since new.

Boat does not get used as much as years ago. Out for a few hours 2or 3 times a summer and a 2 week stint in the water in Wisconsin every year.

First time out this year. After crusing for about 30 minutes, opened her up and after about 10 to 15 seconds at WOT hot alsrm came on. Shut her down Immediately. Did not notice Water Press in the panic. After some cool down, fired her up and with no alarm conservatively crused back to ramp. Normal water pressure showed which has been the same the past couple of years. 10 PSI at 3000 RPM. Yes Pressure was better a few years ago after a new pump but she has a few years on her and has been consistant with no changes on this day. except one.

When close to ramp slowly openered her up and as we got to about 5500 RPM trimed water press started to drop like a rock. Caught it before alarm. Repeated several times with same result.

I believe that with the miminal use this engine gets the water pump has suffered. I understand when they sit out of the water a lot the impeller tends to get cracks in it and will not pump at high speed. I know there are other senarios as well. Guess I will have to replace water pump more often as regular maintence.

    What do you guys thing.

New water pump kit on the way. Thanks

Steve, the old addage( saying) is replace every season if not used a lot and every 2 if used a lot. but the best bet is every year, a decent wrench Like Champ can have ya in and out in a couple hours. happy and running like a " Champ"
