Overheat Alarm on 1988 Johnson GT 175

I just took it to the lake today...and little or no stream from the pee hole.
Can someone provide some guidance on how to replace the impeller and anything else that I should know or look for.
    Serial # J175STLCEB

I appreciate any help that you may provide!!

Do you have a manual? That would help.

In essence, you are going to have to disconnect the shift rod at the motor, and it is easier to to that, IMO if you pull the pans aside.

Then you need to loosen the lower unit and lower it carefully out of the midsection. I would take the prop off too before lowering, since if you dropped it, dinging the prop would really suck.

Beyond that, you are going to need a manual or more expert advice. I would get the water pump kit, not just the impeller.

You also need to verify the shift linkage height before reinstalling. That you need a manual for as well. Otherwise you could have some trouble.

Oh sorry thought it was a 1998, you don't need to loosen the pans.

    Thanks for the response Lockjaw.
I do not have a manual....but I did stay in a holiday inn express last night.....but somehow I don't think that would help me at all.

Seriously....I did run across the shortcut below...

    http://www.bassboatcentral.com/johnrudetips.htm

This has step by step instructions to replace an impellar....My question is... will these instructions work for my motor?

Again, I really appreciate your time

If you stayed at a Holiday Inn Express once, it should be close enough you can figure the rest. JMHO I would replace the complete impeller kit.

I find it easier to remove the VRO and mount from the front of the CC and that gives me more visual area. Yep shift to reverse remove the pin and unbolt all the LU bolts.

Re: Overheat Alarm on 1988 Johnson GT 175 (chevybass)

Well guys....I changed out the water pump last night, although it looked OK and I still have the same issue. Little or no water through the pee hole and it gets hot.
I did find some sand when I dropped the lower unit down. I checked the pee hose and it is not plugged.
Is there a way of flushing the motor from where the pee hose connects to the motor?
I sure would appreciate any guidance that you may provide.
    Thanks

    Thanks for help....
I pulled out my therostats and the inlet below them was completely packed with sand...so when they opened up the water could not get through the block!!!
I cleaned them out and flushed them with the water hose.
I went to the lake yesterday evening and it has good water pressure and ran like a top.

    Thanks again for the help...
