I got a question about my trim, my motor will trim up and down with the switch on the side of the motor but will only trim up on the blinker trim and throttle.. What do you guys think the issue could be and where would you start?

Sounds like a bad connection on one of the wires where the Blinker ties into the throttle switch. There's 3 wires from the blinker that tie in, Blue, Green, and red. Red is power, and blue and green are up and down. I can't remember which, but whichever one is the up and the other is down. Those connections is where I'd look. Does the switch at the bow work ?

Just up work at bow also
It must be in the remote, I traced wires and they look good all the way till it runs down the side of boat to remote/shifter
My blinker trim in spliced in where the connection is to go to the bow, when I add power directly to the each wire I have the same issue, will go up but not down
The trim up wire is Blue. I remember this as “Blue Sky” for up.
The trim down wire Is Green. I remember this as “Green Water” for down.
It is possible that you have a relay failure. You don’t say what motor you have, but if is a Mercury you will have a separate relay for Up and down. You can switch the relays and see if the problem follows.
The Yamaha’s I have worked on have the up and down relays built into one module but you should be able to hear a click if the relay coil is energizing when you push the associated switch. It is also easy to check for voltage with a VOM because all the connections are exposed and even color coded.

It’s a 200hp hpdi Yamaha
I figured since the trim works on the motor that the relays are ok

Ok, I found where the trim switch plugs into the main harness, I fed power to the down wire on the harness and nothing happend. When I fed power to the up on the harness the motor trimmed up
I check the continuity of the wire and noticed
with the motor trimmed down the wiring harness ohms out fine.
once the motor turns up so far I lose continuity.
hooked the harness back up and when the motor is trimmed down the down on the trim works until I trim then motor up.
How old is the boat ? It sounds like a broken wire in the harness. Run a temporary wire (just lay it on top of the boat) from the relay to the switch and try it then. If it works, then that will be the problem.. I had that happen to my 12v wire from the battery to the motor once. If I turned the wheel to the right, it opened the break and would not start. Turned it to the left, it closed the break and it fired right up !!!

The Yamaha uses a contactor instead of two relays like OMC and Mercury. If it trims both up and down at the outboard, then the motor, and contactor are good. When you look in the pan of the motor, you will see the trim wires laying there. You should have a blue/white, red/white, green/white that goes to the contactor. also the contactor has a couple of ground wires and should be grounded to the block. The contactor will have a solid blue, solid red, solid green. The red provides power in, the blue and green go to the motor and determines up and down. Inside the contactor the blue and green both go to ground. When activated, one is hot, the other ground. The hot tells you the direction it goes (blue-up/sky, green-down/grass) All this was to explain why, with the pan switch working, the problem is not in the motor, contactor or wiring from the pan switch to contactor. The pan switch connects to the harness with bullet connections. I would be looking for a problem from the motor pan to the shifter on the blue/white wire.
Hope this helps.
