Which is the better plug ? I couldn't get Champs all they had were the NGK's and the guy said it was a much better plug is that ok to run in a 1991 Fastrike 150 hp

I Really, really, REALLY wouldn't do it. Clean and regap the ones you have and order or whatever you have to do but run tha Champs. You must have been in an automotive parts house,go to a marine dealer or order online @ http://www.sparkplugs.com or http://www.rockauto.com
i run champs, but my buddy in his 03 225 ho always ran ngks. why are the champs so much better

That's strange...I had an '04 Johnson 150 that had NGKs from the factory...

Not trying to be a smarty, but I think mabye frome tha dealer, not the factory. JMHO
I checked the manual for my motor today found it tucked away with some papers the previous owner gave me and it says I should be running QL77JC4's I have been running QL78YC for the last couple of season what would the differnce be? I'm turning around 53 to 5500rpm's wot around 62mph ??

I don't have it any more and it may have been the dealer but it ran great on 'em. I just wonder why on a brand new engine? Oh well.....
Here is what I found out about the NGK's. If you run oil injection or OMS, you are much better off sticking with the Champ's.
I ran NGK's in 2 different oil injected engines, and never had an issues, but... I guess I would rather be safe then sorry.

J-E engines require a suppressor sparkplug, not to be confused with a resisitor plug, for their ignition systems. Here is a bit more info:
CDI
CDI (Capacitive Discharge Ignition) for outboard marine motors is basically a refined version of the old magneto ignition system, except the points have been replaced with electronic circuitry. CDI is used on some (not all) late model marine engines such as Johnson and Evinrude, and some late model motorcycle engines. Do not use a "regular" resistor type plug on a motor with this type of Capacitive Discharge Ignition as this will cause misfire and poor performance. Rather, make sure to use a plug with an inductive type resistor (such as a Champion Q-type resistor). Use of non-inductive resistor type plugs on these motors can create an open circuit within the spark plug (it will become a dead plug). Modified automotive racing motors also have a form of CDI, (such as Mallory, MSD, Crane and Accel), these should not be confused with the marine or powersports systems, please refer to High output ignition systems for more information.
Resistor Plugs
At the moment the spark jumps the gap it causes a high frequency burst of energy, this is known as RFI (radio frequency interference). This is why Champion introduced resistor spark plugs in the mid 1960's. Placing a resistor within the spark plug suppresses the RFI. Without resistor plugs in your car you can experience static on your radio as well as interfere with other sensitive electronic equipment. Some later model vehicles as well as newer Powersport engines must use resistor plugs for a proper "talkback" to the electronic ignition. Outboard marine Capacitive Discharge Ignition (CDI) such as used on some Johnson and Evinrude marine engines require a special inductive type resistor (such as a Champion Q-type resistor). Use of non-inductive resistor type plugs on these motors can cause misfire and poor performance.
