My 150 Johnson ( J150ELECD) just started running poorly, Smokes far more than normal at start. Sputters and sneases will it has a cold and stalls when you give it gas after it idles down. The VRO was replaced last year and the primer bulb was just replaced last week. Once I run it accross the lake it runs much better. Any help would great.
You may want to check your cylinder head temps on both sides of the block. Should be in the 140* F at idle.
I will check temp and I have changed oil (using pensoil) perhaps i should change back and maybe put in another set of new plugs?
My 1999 175 Johnson does the same thing. It runs good once you get her going but sneazes and breaks up at idle. I was thinking of changing my plugs but was going to search on here to see if anybody else was having the same problem.

I have a 1991 Fastrike that does the same thing at idle and now she stumbles if you try to give it gas slowly but hit her hard and runs like tinbear,could it be water separator or more to it J150GLEIS just put new plugs about a month ago????

I have a '93 175 and decarbed it a couple of years ago for the first time. Never heard of it before then. Did the decarb per instructions, new set of plugs and it was running better that ever. Very noticeable if you have never decarbed the engine. Just don't do it in the driveway!!

Go down 4 sizes on your intermediate jet and down 2 on your Low speed jet. Should fix you right up.

Well the problem was once again a bad VRO. It was covered under warantee. That makes 3 replaced VRO's in 3 years. I asked if I was doing anything to cause the problem and have been assured no. What the heck is with that?
